Center for Discipleship and Ministry Development

A service of Extension Ministries

Think outside the box. It’s a popular phrase, but what does it mean? In Kingdom terms it means that we stop and repent of our attempts to limit the limitless power of God. Of course in our brokenness we do attempt to limit or box God, particularly when we fail to remain expectant and trusting that He can and will meet the overwhelming discipleship and ministry development needs that surround us.

The Center for Discipleship and Ministry Development is a Trinity initiative charged with the task of rethinking the means of educating the 21st century Church.  We all know the challenges and the questions. How do we educate or re-educate a culture largely disconnected from the Christian Story? How do we articulate that Story boldly and clearly and make it accessible and available to all? How do we truly hear the questions that people around us, including our parishioners, are asking about the validity and relevance of Scripture, and how do we craft clear biblically based and theologically sound answers? How can or should schools of ministry and theology change the way they educate and prepare not only clergy, but more importantly the people they will serve and attempt to reach? How can Trinity become a center of learning for the Church?

The Center’s role in meeting these challenges is part think tank (or prayer tank) and part programming. We want to pray, listen, and research as we build on what is effective, leave behind what is not, and create something new when appropriate. We are also part lay education and part clergy continuing education. We will continue to provide a variety of quality on campus and extension learning opportunities.

Trinity’s tradition of Interterm sessions in January and June continues to provide an opportunity for intensive courses, both credit and non-credit, as well as workshops and seminars for the enrichment of the laity and continuing education of clergy.  This will continue with our Interterm offerings, which include exciting opportunities to study spirituality and missions.

Our Christian Foundations Program will continue to bring Trinity’s academic program into your parish or ministry environment. Written by Trinity faculty, these courses are flexible, challenging, and accessible. Relevant topics for new courses are also being explored, so keep checking back at our web site. Trinity’s Anglican Edition of the Bible-in-Life Sunday school Curriculum through Cook Communications Ministries is providing quality materials for children and teens.
