The Stanway Institute

It is important to be led by the Spirit so that we may know the right time to speak; but it is always correct to answer any question about our faith without fear, to say what Christ means to us.  If we are willing to speak for Him, the Holy Spirit will show us when to speak, even how to speak.  We will be courteous, not argumentative, for we are bearing witness to what we know.

We must never adopt a "better than you" attitude.  We have nothing to boast of.  We are saved by grace, and we are certain that God is willing, in His mercy, to receive others who, like us, will come to Christ.

–Bishop Alfred Stanway, Trinity's founding Dean

At the beginning of this new century, the great oceans that used to separate continents and nations are no longer formidable barriers to communication, to commerce, or to international travel.  There is now an unprecedented opportunity to be faithful to the Great Commission.  The Stanway Institute is responding to this opportunity by equipping Christian leaders for the Great Commission task:  to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to "those who are far off and to those who are near." (Ephesians 2:17)

The Commitment

The Stanway Institute reflects Trinity's commitment to global mission as an integral and basic part of the preparation for future Christian ministry.

God's mission is not something that is accomplished only by others working internationally, but involves the direct and active participation of the local congregation.

It is the task of leadership to encourage and motivate each congregation to be involved in mission at all levels:  prayer and financial support, and the raising up of new missionaries to serve at home and abroad.  Furthermore, the task is to see where God is calling them to mission in their own communities.

At Trinity, students enrich their preparation for ministry through short-term mission trips, supervised internships, and exchange programs.  They learn from returning missionaries and from other international visitors and greatly benefit from their experience and knowledge.

The Trinity community is blessed through this exchange of people and ideas.  The chance to travel abroad and see God at work opens up new perspectives in ministry and exposes students to new and practical ministry skills and strategies that can assist in renewal and revival of the church at home and throughout the world.
