Lay Studies
A service of Extension Ministries
Now more than ever, the Church is in need of well-trained lay people (youth through adults) who can articulate a faithful and compassionate gospel message within the context of everyday life. The Center for Discipleship and Ministry Development is seeking to develop materials and programs that will help create a mission shaped Church for our time – so keep checking back with us! Trinity has three excellent education programs for old and young that could help you take that first step toward excellent training in your parish or ministry community.

Keys and Pathways:
How to Enter and Experience the Bible as the Living Word of God
Most Christians read the Bible – or think they should – but many of us aren’t confident that we really know how to do it. Or, we may have a niggling suspicion that we’re not “getting it” as deeply as we should. This course can help. And even if you are confident and knowledgeable, this course can shed new light on old texts. The main idea is simple: read the text as what it is! But how to do it? That’s what we’ll learn in this course. Click here to view and print out a flyer with more information.
Instructor: The Rev. Ann Paton, PhD
Dates: Monday evenings, February 4 - April 7, 2008
Time: 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Place: Commons Hall, Trinity School for Ministry
Outreach Spanish
This exciting course is designed for people who want to speak basic Spanish for outreach and mission purposes. The approach is informal and practical, focusing on the essential grammar, vocabulary, and phrases most likely to be used by church workers, short and long-term missionaries, and just ordinary neighbors in reaching out to the Hispanic community. The course is appropriate for all individuals, ages 12 and over, including those who have never studied Spanish before.
Students will be asked to purchase the Behind the Wheel Spanish (Level 1) program, by Language Dynamics, as the primary resource for the course. BTWS incorporates a multi-media approach to language learning, including a course book, 8 audio CDs, a handy pronunciation guide, and written transcripts of each CD. These materials will be available for purchase from the instructor at the first class session.
