The Janani Luwum Scholars Program
In conjunction with Uganda Christian University (UCU), Trinity is pleased to offer a new trial program for African students in the Doctor of Ministry Program.
Students from Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Nigeria are invited to apply as potential recipients of the Janani Luwum scholarship which will cover the majority of their expenses for their study. The Doctor of Ministry program is a professional doctorate, i.e., it is aimed at practitioners of ministry rather than those who intend to do academic teaching. The first cohort of this program will be aimed at parish pastors, with the theme “Building Strong Parishes.”
An important piece of the cohort will be an “alliance” between the student and the diocesan bishop. The intention of this cohort is to develop intentional collaboration between diocesan leadership and the academic institutions supporting and forming ministry leadership. African bishops are encouraged to nominate their best pastors to strengthen his or her skills and build up the parish.
This new cohort is aimed for Africans in Africa – thus, after a 4-week initial set of courses in the United States, students will complete their studies at UCU in 2-week modules over 3-4 years in order for student work to be fully contextualized.
