The Trinity Community Welcomes Bishop John Rodgers

August 1 – The Rt. Rev. Dr. John Rodgers today began his one-year service as Trinity’s Interim Dean and President.  He was welcomed with a small reception with faculty and staff where the Rev. Martha Giltinan, Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology and Director of Mentored Ministry, gave thanks for Bishop Rodgers’ pastoral gifts, compassion and vision and prayed for God’s blessing and leading for the School in the year ahead.

Bishop Rodgers was one of the founders of Trinity, coming to Ambridge in 1976 from Virginia Theological Seminary to be Trinity’s first professor of Systematic Theology.  When founding Dean/President Bishop Alfred Stanway returned to Australia in 1978, John Rodgers was elected to succeed him, serving from 1978 to 1990, at which time he returned to teaching at Trinity and became the first director of the Stanway Institute for World Mission and Evangelism.

John holds the BS from the U.S. Naval Academy (1954), the MDiv from Virginia Theological Seminary (1958), and the ThD summa cum laude from the University of Basel, Switzerland (1962).  He is a retired bishop of the Anglican Mission in America.  John and his wife, Blanche, have four grown children, eight grandchildren, and live in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.
